What really matters when it comes to feeding cats? For us, two things are especially important: that the food is well tolerated and well balanced.
When it comes to our own cats, we naturally want to know what we are putting in their bowls. We want to feel confident that we are doing something good for them, and that the recipe has been carefully put together.
There are many different BARF supplements available from all kinds of manufacturers, each with their own approach and philosophy.
Every now and then, we are asked why our premix costs a little more than other BARF supplements. And yes, we understand why people ask. For us, the answer begins with a simple question: What would we expect from a premix ourselves? Our goal has always been to make a product that we can truly stand behind. No ifs, no buts.
Quality starts with the ingredients
There are many decisions that go into putting our premixes together. Choosing the ingredients we use and the quality we choose for each of them is an important part of that.
Ingredients are available in many different qualities and at very different prices. We all know this from shopping at the supermarket. The shelves are full of products that vary greatly in both quality and price. When it comes to our Premixes, we choose the highest quality available to us for every single ingredient we use.
For us, though, a good premix is about more than just the quality of the individual ingredients. It also matters how they are combined and balanced with one another. It is how all these ingredients work together that makes a well-balanced premix.
We work with carefully selected suppliers who have been with us for many years and whose consistent quality we can rely on. Almost all of our ingredients come from suppliers in Germany and Europe. When choosing them, we pay close attention not only to quality, but also to purity and careful processing. You can even notice the quality of the ingredients in the pleasant smell of our Premixes and in how readily cats accept them.
Some of the ingredients we use come from certified organic production. These ingredients are also checked as part of our annual organic inspection. However, due to legal requirements, we are not allowed to make an organic claim on our labels.
What you don’t see at first glance
From the outside, BARF supplements and similar products can often look very much alike. The packaging lists different nutrients, but those details alone don’t always tell you what really makes one product different from another. The differences become clear when you take a closer look.
We could offer our premix at a lower price
We want to be completely open about this: we could make our Premix cheaper.
But to do so, we would have to make different choices - for example, putting more emphasis on price when choosing our ingredients or considering less expensive suppliers outside Europe. Ultimately, it would affect our Premix too — its quality, its smell, its consistency and the care we take to ensure the same quality from one batch to the next.
Good ingredients simply come at a price — and that’s okay with us. These choices are part of what makes our Premix what it is — and ultimately, its price.
We choose to do things our own way
We produce our Premix ourselves in our small manufacturing facility, always fresh and in small batches. We don’t have it made by an outside manufacturer.
Of course, this means more work for us, but it also means that we can oversee the entire process ourselves and stay true to our own standards.
We want our Premix to remain part of a loving and thoughtful way of feeding your cat — not something that has to disappear from the bowl because of the cost. That’s another reason why, despite everything that has become more expensive in recent years, we do our best to keep our prices as stable as possible.
We have always stayed true to ourselves
We are a small independent business, and we are proud of that. We have been making our Premixes ourselves for many years, always with the same care and attention to quality. And that hasn’t changed — and it won’t in the future.
We never wanted to grow just for the sake of getting bigger. We made a conscious decision to remain a small business and continue doing things our own way — with the care and standards that have always mattered to us.
Since 2007, this has been what drives us: to do things we believe in and to make something that people can feel good about putting in their cats’ bowls.
Because in the end, what matters most is the joy of doing something good for your cat with love and care.
